HOMEWOOD, AL, UNITED STATES, October 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The City of Homewood, Alabama has selected OpenGov to replace its legacy ERP system with OpenGov ERP. The city will implement Financial Management, Budgeting & Performance, and Procurement & Contract Management, after a unanimous City Council approval in October.
Homewood is a suburb of Birmingham in Jefferson County, with more than 28,000 residents. The city’s finance team had relied on Word and Excel, without a centralized procurement or contract management system.
The existing system was due for a costly upgrade that still would not add modern capabilities such as online payments. Every budget cycle required months of manual work, and staff had no consistent way to run solicitations, track vendor evaluations, or store contracts in one place. Leadership wanted to modernize without the long, expensive rollouts it had seen before.
Finance Director Aspen Collins brought direct experience from implementing Budgeting & Performance in her previous role at Mobile County and thus championed OpenGov as the path forward. With OpenGov, Homewood will run its general ledger, accounts payable, and other financial operations alongside its budgeting and procurement work in one system. Workforce planning will be built into the budget cycle, and centralized solicitations, supplier engagement, and a contract repository will give staff one place to manage purchasing. Dashboards and public transparency tools will give council and residents a clearer view of how the city spends its money.
“The power that you have in OpenGov is incredible and you can use it for more than just budgeting because it pulls your real financial data in real time. The uses are endless when it comes to reporting,” said Aspen Collins, Finance Director, City of Homewood. “Once we’re live on OpenGov, we’ll build the budget in one place, plan our workforce alongside it, and give our council and residents a clearer view of how the city spends its money.”
Homewood joins fellow Alabama public agencies using OpenGov ERP, including the City of Vestavia Hills and Eufaula Water Works & Sewer Board.
